Ear Infection -Otitis Media
Ear infections in pets commonly affect the outer ear (otitis externa) and may involve bacteria, yeast, parasites, allergies, moisture, or foreign material.
Pets with floppy ears, narrow ear canals, skin disease, or frequent swimming are at higher risk.

Otitis media is an infection or inflammation of the middle ear, often developing as a progression from untreated or recurrent outer ear infections (otitis externa). It may also occur due to ruptured eardrums, chronic inflammation, polyps, foreign material, or underlying allergies.
Pets with otitis media may show head tilting, balance problems, pain when opening the mouth, facial nerve weakness, reduced hearing, lethargy, or persistent ear discharge and odor.
Management focuses on accurate diagnosis through veterinary examination and imaging when needed, followed by appropriate antimicrobial or anti-inflammatory therapy.
Addressing underlying causes such as allergies or anatomical issues is essential to prevent recurrence and protect hearing, balance, and neurological health.
