Ear Polyps and Cyst in Pets
Ear polyps and cysts are benign growths in the ear canal or middle ear of pets. They are more commonly reported in cats, but can occur in dogs as well.
- Polyps: Soft, fleshy growths that may extend from the ear canal into the middle ear or throat.
- Cysts: Fluid-filled sacs that develop in or around the ear, sometimes under the skin.
These growths are usually non-cancerous, but they can cause discomfort or ear infections if left untreated.
Ear polyps can sometimes be observed in pets, particularly in cats and dogs with a history of recurring ear concerns.
Feline Ceruminous Cystomatosis
In cats such as Persians and Abyssinians, small blue-grey ear cysts (ceruminous cystomatosis) may occur.
These are usually considered non-cancerous and largely cosmetic, but if they enlarge, they may affect the ear canal and comfort.
