Calicivirus in Rabbits
Calicivirus in rabbits - also known as Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) - is a highly contagious and often fatal viral condition affecting domestic and wild rabbits.
It primarily targets the liver and blood vessels, leading to rapid and severe illness.
Common Signs
- Sudden death with no prior symptoms (most common presentation)
- Fever, lethargy, or reduced appetite
- Bleeding from the nose or other orifices in some cases
- Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
- Signs of internal haemorrhage or shock
- In subacute cases: weakness, jaundice, or neurological signs
