Educational Overview
Pterygium in Pets
Pterygium is a term used to describe a benign growth of tissue on the surface of the eye, often extending from the inner corner toward the cornea.
In pets, it may appear as a pale, fleshy or membranous area and is sometimes associated with chronic irritation, inflammation, or environmental exposure.
While pterygium is usually slow-growing, it can affect comfort or vision if it progresses. Supporting overall eye health, reducing ongoing irritation, and monitoring changes are important aspects of maintaining ocular wellbeing.
Veterinary assessment is recommended if the growth changes in size, colour, or begins to interfere with vision or comfort.
