Educational Overview
Paraphimosis (or Balanitis)
Paraphimosis occurs when a pet’s penis cannot retract fully back into the sheath, while balanitis refers to inflammation of the exposed tissues.
Both conditions can lead to swelling, discomfort, and difficulty urinating.
Because these issues can worsen quickly and may indicate underlying irritation, trauma, or infection, any persistent exposure or swelling should be evaluated by a veterinarian promptly.
Supporting genital health involves keeping the area clean, monitoring for redness or discharge, and preventing excessive licking.
Some pets may benefit from veterinarian‑recommended strategies designed to support normal skin integrity and reduce irritations.
