Blowfly Strike
Blowfly strike, or myiasis, happens when certain flies lay eggs on an animal’s skin or coat, especially in warm, humid conditions. Pets are more at risk if their coat stays damp, if they have soiling around the rear end, or if they have wounds or areas that are hard to keep clean.
Early signs can include restlessness, increased licking, or a sudden unpleasant odour. Because these signs can indicate many conditions, any concern about blowfly strike should be assessed by a veterinarian promptly.
Prevention focuses on keeping the coat clean and dry, checking vulnerable areas regularly, and maintaining a clean environment. During high‑risk seasons, some pets may benefit from veterinarian‑recommended preventive measures.
