Feline Chlamydophila  (formerly known as feline chlamydia)

Feline chlamydophila is part of the feline upper respiratory disease complex, which is a group of viral and bacterial infections.  Chlamydiosis refers to a bacteria-based chronic respiratory infection, caused by the Chlamydia psittaci bacterium. Cats that have developed this infection will often exhibit traditional signs of an upper respiratory infection, .... such as watery eyes, ... a runny nose, ... and sneezing.

Symptoms and Types
Chlamydiosis infection affects the respiratory system, the eyes, the gastrointestinal system and the reproduction systems of animals.

Cats experience standard upper respiratory tract symptoms, including: 

• Sneezing
• Watery eyes
• Discharge from eyes
• Coughing
• Difficulty breathing
• A runny nose
• Lack of appetite (anorexia)
• Fever
• Pneumonia, if left untreated
  
  

Sometimes feline chlamydophila is referred to as feline pneumonitis, indicating a problem with the lungs (lung infection)   Note: the Liposomal Vitamin C gel or liquid will treat or prevent this lung infection. 

Causes
While there is a higher prevalence of this infection in kittens, this condition is present in all ages and breeds. Cats that are kept in crowded quarters with other animals, as in a kennel, are at an increased risk of infection. Added to the risk is the ease with which this bacteria travels. Transmission can take place even without direct contact with an infected animal, as the molecules from a cough or sneeze can travel across a room, a human caretaker can carry the bacteria and spread it by touch, or the cat may come into contact with a contaminated object, such as in a bedding or feeding area.

Diagnosis
Your veterinarians will take a sample of the eye discharge, also referred to as a conjunctival scraping or swabbing, in order to have a culture of the fluid done to determine what the source of the illness is. If it is believed that pneumonia is present, an X-ray of your cats lungs will be performed to check for the presence of fluid.

Unfortunately, feline chlamydophila can become chronic even after successful treatment with antibiotics drugs (or even with herbal antibiotic- if the immune system is weak or damage)   What will help is to keep your kitty’s stress level low can help reduce flare-ups.

Eyes (conjunctivitis / pink eye)
It appears most often in kitties as conjunctivitis, which is inflammation of the tissues of the eye (pink eye).
Sometimes feline chlamydophila is referred to as feline pneumonitis, indicating a problem with the lungs.
However, most symptoms of a chlamydophila infection in cats involve inflammation of the tissues surrounding the eye and the upper respiratory tract only.

Initially keeping healthy cats separate from infected cats, while you wait to start the natural medicines.
There is a vaccine for feline chlamydophila, but it doesn’t prevent infection, can have significant side effects, and is not routinely recommended. We find the chlamydia nosode helpful for prevention for cats and kittens at home, breeders, and catteries, shelters etc.

EYES - Apply to eyes and clean using undiluted straight solution of colloidal silver with cotton wool.

PREVENTION: Add a teaspoon to meals for all cats and kittens in the household.
