Educational Overview
Spasms
Spasms in animals are sudden, involuntary muscle contractions that can affect comfort, mobility, and normal behaviour. They may occur in isolated muscles or across larger muscle groups depending on the underlying cause.
Common Causes
- Muscle fatigue or overexertion during activity
- Electrolyte imbalances affecting normal muscle function
- Dehydration reducing muscle flexibility and nerve signalling
- Nerve irritation or compression along the spine or limbs
- Underlying muscle inflammation or injury
- Pain responses triggering protective muscle tightening
- Certain toxins or medications influencing muscle control
Common Signs
- Sudden tightening or twitching of a muscle group
- Brief episodes of stiffness or difficulty moving
- Visible rippling or spasmodic contractions under the skin
- Sensitivity or discomfort when the area is touched
- Restlessness or repeated shifting of posture
- Temporary limping or reluctance to bear weight
- Vocalisation or signs of distress during an episode
Recognizing early signs of spasms and understanding the factors that trigger them helps support timely veterinary evaluation and long‑term comfort for animals.

SET OF
Educational Purposes
Spasms may be observed in a variety of situations, including post-distemper tics in canines, general nervous tics, abdominal cramping or stomach pain, as well as chest tightness sometimes described as angina. They may also be linked to coronary artery spasms and circulatory stress associated with hypertension or heart strain.
* If tic episodes are present, magnesium is often essential for recovery.
When given consistently over a period of around two months, with dosage gradually increased twice daily, magnesium may help support the resolution of tics. Once the tics subside, magnesium can be continued in a reduced amount for long-term maintenance of health.
For post-distemper tics, we suggest Spasm Ease 267-A formula together with magnesium drops or powder, administered twice daily.
Formulated with plant-based ingredients selected for their gentle role in supporting overall balance and wellbeing.
