Shock - Physical or emotional traumas-stress.

Shock is a life-threatening condition in pets where the body’s tissues and organs do not receive enough oxygen and nutrients.

It can result from physical trauma, severe illness, sudden stress, or emotional shock.

Early recognition is critical to prevent organ failure.   

Semi to Mild shock, is hard to detect, and therefore many pets and people live with this condition, unknowingly. 

Causes:

• Physical trauma: Accidents, fractures, burns, wounds, internal bleeding
  
  

• Severe illness: Heart disease, dehydration, infection, allergic reactions
  
  

• Emotional trauma / stress: Sudden fright, loss of owner, loud noises, traumatic events
  
  
  

Signs to watch for:

• Pale, bluish, or gray gums
  
  

• Rapid, weak pulse or irregular heartbeat
  
  

• Shallow or rapid breathing
  
  

• Lethargy, weakness, or collapse
  
  

• Trembling or anxiety
  
  

• Vomiting or diarrhea in severe cases
  
  

Prevention / supportive care:

• Minimize exposure to hazards, accidents, or stressful situations
  
  

• Use calm handling, safe spaces, and gradual desensitization to loud noises
  
  

• Monitor pets with chronic illness or frailty closely for early signs
