Vitamin C and Sepsis – Research Insights
Sepsis is a serious health challenge that arises when the body’s immune response becomes over-activated, leading to stress on organs and tissues. This condition can progress rapidly, and when it advances to septic shock, multiple organs may begin to fail.
Recent scientific interest has explored the potential role of high-dose vitamin C in supporting patients experiencing sepsis. At the Florey Institute, Professor Rinaldo Bellomo and his team observed remarkable changes when sodium ascorbate (a natural form of vitamin C) was given in large amounts to a critically ill patient. Within a short time, markers such as blood pressure regulation, oxygen levels, and kidney function improved. The patient’s temperature also stabilised.
According to the report, after 12 days of sodium ascorbate support, the patient was able to be removed from assisted ventilation. Within 22 days, they were discharged from hospital with no noted complications. These observations were published as part of a broader study examining vitamin C’s role in critical illness.

4. Sodium Ascorbate Powder
Sodium ascorbate is a buffered form of Vitamin C, often noted in nutritional literature for its role in supporting overall wellbeing, cellular function, and antioxidant activity. Vitamin C is one of the most widely studied nutrients in the world, with tens of thousands of published articles listed through the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
In research settings, Vitamin C has been explored for its traditional connections with immune balance, lung and circulatory function, and overall resilience during times of stress. It has long been recognised for its role in collagen formation, tissue strength, and antioxidant activity, which together contribute to vitality and recovery.
Sodium ascorbate offers a gentle, alkaline form of Vitamin C that is generally well tolerated, making it a popular choice for ongoing wellbeing support.
