Educational Overview
Phantom Pregnancy Support
Phantom pregnancy, also called pseudopregnancy, occurs when a non‑pregnant female pet—most often a dog—shows signs similar to pregnancy due to natural hormonal changes after a heat cycle. Pets may display nesting behavior, enlarged mammary glands, or changes in appetite or mood. Because these signs can resemble other reproductive or medical conditions, any persistent or concerning changes should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
Supporting pets during a pseudopregnancy involves keeping routines calm, limiting stimulation of the mammary area, and monitoring for changes in behavior or comfort. A veterinarian can help determine whether the signs are part of a normal hormonal shift or if another condition needs attention.
