What are intestinal parasites?

Intestinal parasites are worms or protozoa that live in the digestive tract, stealing nutrients and irritating the gut. They can be common in puppies, kittens, rescues pets living in streets in a city.

Common parasites in dogs & cats

Worms (helminths):

• Roundworms (Toxocara): pot-bellied look, vomiting worms
  
  

• Hookworms: blood loss, anemia, black stools
  
  

• Whipworms (dogs): chronic diarrhea, weight loss
  
  

• Tapeworms: rice-like segments near anus or in stool
  
  
  

Protozoa:

• Giardia: soft, greasy, foul-smelling stools
  
  

• Coccidia: watery or bloody diarrhea (young animals)
  
  

How pets get infected

• Ingesting eggs from soil, feces, or contaminated water
  
  

• Eating prey (rodents, birds)
  
  

• Fleas (tapeworms)
  
  

• From mother to puppies/kittens (roundworms, hookworms)
  
  

Signs to watch for

• Diarrhea (sometimes bloody or mucousy)
  
  

• Vomiting
  
  

• Weight loss or poor growth
  
  

• Pot-bellied appearance
  
  

• Dull coat
  
  

• Scooting or licking rear end
  
  

• Lethargy or anemia (pale gums)
  
  

Diagnosis

• Fecal examination   (float, smear, antigen tests)
  
  

• Repeat testing may be needed   (intermittent shedding)
  
  
  

 Allopathic Prevention using Chemical "Neurotoxins" - commercially sold in drops, sprays, bombs, tablets.  

Example:  there are two chemical (neurotoxins) in the Cat and Dog "WORMER". 

Pyrantel Pamoate and Praziquantel. Unwanted side effects.
