Educational Overview
Tick-Associated Conditions
Tick-associated organisms, including those linked with
Ehrlichiosis (sometimes referred to as Brown Dog Fever)
Rocky Mountain spotted fever–type rickettsial organisms,
and
Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme-associated bacteria), are present in many regions worldwide where ticks are established.
Exposure typically occurs when an infected tick feeds, allowing these organisms to enter the body.
Animals may show variable or non-specific changes in wellbeing, such as reduced energy, appetite changes, fever, or intermittent discomfort, while others may show few or no obvious signs.
Because tick species and associated organisms differ by location, ongoing tick awareness and professional veterinary assessment are important when unexplained changes in health are observed.
