Leishmaniasis (Leishmania spp.)
Context
Leishmania parasites (L. canis, L. infantum) are protozoa transmitted by sandfly bites and midges. L. infantum is the most important species in canine infections, leading to Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL), also called kala-azar.
This disease can affect skin, organs, and immune balance. It is systemic and often chronic, requiring ongoing immune and detox support. Pinworm and sandfly-related fevers may also occur in the same environments, adding further burden to the immune system.
-
Caused by protozoan parasites transmitted by sandfly bites.
-
Affects dogs most commonly, but can also occur in other animals.
-
Clinical signs may include:
-
Skin lesions, ulcerations, or fur loss
-
Weight loss and poor appetite
-
Enlarged lymph nodes or spleen
-
Weakness, anemia, and immune imbalance
Care Notes
-
Dogs in endemic regions often require ongoing immune support.
-
Reduce chemical load (drugs, processed foods, heavy metals) to protect immune balance.
-
Natural repellents and mosquito netting can reduce sandfly exposure.
-
Veterinary diagnosis and follow-up are always essential in confirmed cases.
- Topical Applications
Formula 5
In cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis, lesions may appear as single or multiple sores on the skin. These may also involve sensitive tissues such as the nasal septum (mucocutaneous leishmaniasis), where cartilage and soft tissues can be affected.
