Hygroma & False Bursa Cysts in Dogs
A hygroma (also called a false bursa cyst) is a fluid-filled swelling that develops over pressure points, most commonly on the elbows of large or short-coated dogs. It forms when repeated pressure or impact causes irritation beneath the skin, leading to fluid accumulation.
Hygromas are usually non-painful at first, but may become inflamed, infected, or uncomfortable if the skin is damaged. Veterinary assessment is recommended to determine severity and guide appropriate management.
