Educational Overview
Vaccines in Cats – Medical Educational Script
Vaccines given during kittenhood are designed to help the immune system develop immune memory. Once this memory is established, the body may retain the ability to recognise certain infectious agents for extended periods of time.
For some core vaccines, immune memory may persist for several years or longer after the initial vaccination course. However, the duration of immunity can vary depending on the individual animal, the vaccine type, health status, and environmental exposure.
Responses to vaccination can vary between individual animals. Some pets may show mild, short-term changes such as tiredness or reduced appetite, while others show no noticeable effects.
Current veterinary practice considers vaccination decisions based on risk assessment (e.g if ill or health condition already, elderly etc), lifestyle, local disease prevalence, and individual health factors, rather than fixed annual schedules alone.
This information is provided for educational purposes only and is not intended to replace veterinary advice. Vaccination decisions should always be made in consultation with a qualified veterinarian.

Vaccines in Cats – Holistic Educational Overview
From a holistic perspective, vaccination is viewed as an immune experience for dogs and cats, where the body is exposed to specific antigens to encourage immune recognition and response.
Each animal responds individually. Factors such as age, overall vitality, nutrition, stress levels, previous health history, and environment can influence how a pet adapts following vaccination. Some animals may appear unaffected, while others may show temporary changes in energy, appetite, or behaviour as the body processes the immune stimulus.
Holistic care places emphasis on supporting the whole animal, before and after vaccination. This includes maintaining good nutrition and hydration, minimising physical and emotional stress, allowing adequate rest, and observing the animal closely for any changes in wellbeing.
Vaccination decisions are best made in partnership with a veterinarian, taking into account lifestyle, exposure risk, and the individual needs of the pet. A balanced approach considers both medical guidance and the animal’s overall resilience and comfort.

Watch for Possible Post-Vaccination Reactions
Some animals may experience changes in behaviour or physical health following certain injections.
Reported observations have included sudden fear, unusual aggression towards housemates, delirium, biting, striking, violent outbursts, sensitivity to noises, restlessness, obsessive grooming, dilated pupils, a heightened desire for touch, hallucination-like episodes, convulsions, twitching, heightened sensitivity of all senses (hyperesthesia), obsessive patterns, or general unwellness. These may be short-term (acute) or longer-term (chronic).
In Cats (Felines):
Occasional responses described in traditional or clinical records include fever, lethargy, decreased appetite, or a localized swelling at the injection site. In rare cases, an allergic-type reaction has been noted, which may include hives, weakness, and collapse.
