Educational Overview
Glomerulonephritis in Pets
Glomerulonephritis is inflammation of the kidney’s glomeruli, the filtering units responsible for removing waste from the blood. It can result from infections, immune-mediated disease, toxins, or chronic conditions like diabetes. Damage to glomeruli reduces kidney function, leading to protein loss in urine (proteinuria), fluid retention, high blood pressure, and eventual kidney failure.
Affected pets may show lethargy, increased thirst and urination, swelling of limbs or abdomen, reduced appetite, vomiting, or weight loss.
Diagnosis involves urinalysis, blood tests, imaging, and sometimes kidney biopsy.
Management includes controlling underlying causes; supporting kidney function through diet and treatment, monitoring blood pressure and protein loss to slow progression and preserve long-term kidney health.

Understanding Kidney and Urinary Wellbeing
In traditional wellness approaches, the kidneys are seen as central to maintaining strength, resilience, and energy throughout the body. When this system is under strain, animals may show changes in balance, vitality, or comfort. Supporting the kidneys and urinary tract with carefully selected plant and mineral blends can form part of a natural program for long-term wellbeing.

Kidney Support - Hydration and Gentle Detox
Hydration
When the kidneys are under strain, the body may struggle to maintain balance and effectively clear waste. One way that practitioners sometimes assist pets is through hydration methods such as subcutaneous fluids, provided under veterinary guidance. These fluids can help maintain comfort and support overall wellbeing. If you are considering this approach, speak with your veterinarian about what is appropriate and how it may be safely administered at home or contact one of our Vet practitioners.
Gentle Cleanse Support
Traditional wellness practices have also made use of natural adsorbents such as activated charcoal. Historically, charcoal has been associated with helping bind and carry away unwanted substances in the digestive tract, supporting comfort and balance. A common folk method has been to mix powdered charcoal with water and add small amounts to meals as part of ongoing wellbeing care.
