Medicinal Herbal Uses
Usnea Barb (Usnea Barbarta) - antibiotic, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, immuno-stimulating, immuno-regulator, demulcent, anti-tumor, expectorant, muscle relaxant. This common lichen is antibacterial and antifungal. A powerful antibiotic, usnea is used to treat urinary tract infections, strep and staph infections, respiratory and sinus infections as well as fungal infections like yeast and vaginosis. Usnea is best used as a tincture. Usnea’s medicinal use dates back to ancient china, when it was used to treat infection. It is still used for that purpose today. In additional, unlike many antibiotics, usnea does not kill off friendly intestinal flora. Its main function is for the treatment of bacterial infections, bronchitis, candida, colds, cough, diarrhea, flu, giargia, gonorrhea, infection, lupus, pleurisy, pneumonia, sinus infection, staph infection, strep throat, tuberculosis, and urethritis. So a wonderful antibiotic, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, immuno-stimulating, immuno-regulator, demulcent, anti-tumor, expectorant, muscle relaxant.
Pau d acro (Lapacho) - anti tumour, anti fungal known to treat Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Cryptococcus neoformans, that was similar to Amphotericin B. The presumed antifungal activity of lapachol is believed to be due to its interaction with the cellular membrane. Medical documentation accompanied the patients’ cures. It is native to South America, where it has been used to treat a wide range of conditions, including pain, arthritis, inflammation of the prostate gland (prostatitis), fever, dysentery, boils and ulcers, and various cancers. In the decades that followed, Pau d’Arco (Lapacho) has become accepted as a standard form of prescribed treatment for certain forms of cancer and infections because of the work done by Dr. Orlando deiSanti at the Municipal Hospital in Santo Andre. The physicians prescribing Pau d’Arco observed that the pain suffered by cancer patients (particularly leukemia) disappeared within hours after the tea was administered to them.
Olive Leaf (Olea europaea) - either kills, or resists the multiplication of a broad range of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and other parasites
From research and clinical experience to date, we can say that supplemental olive leaf may be beneficial in the treatment for conditions caused by, or associated with, a virus, retrovirus, bacterium or protozoan. Among those treatable conditions are: influenza, the common cold, candida infections, meningitis, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), encephalitis, herpes I and II, human herpes virus 6 and 7, shingles (Herpes zoster), HIV/ARC/AIDS, chronic fatigue, hepatitis B, pneumonia, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, malaria, dengue, severe diarrhea, and dental, ear, urinary tract and surgical infections. is used for treating viral, bacterial, and other infections including influenza, swine flu, the common cold, meningitis, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), encephalitis, herpes, shingles, HIV/ARC/AIDS, and hepatitis B. Olive leaf is also used for pneumonia.
Sweet Annie (Artemisinin annua)- aside from being primarily antimalarial, the artemisinin that can be extracted from Artemisia annua has been found by numerous studies to be effective against a wide range of viruses, the fungus Pneumocystis jiroveci, the parasitic protozoa Toxoplasma gondii, cancer cell lines, and other parasitic infections, such as schistosomiasis, leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, and African sleeping sickness. So great to use for Lung infection - pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) that is caused by a fungus. This herb is also often used for Malaria and Babesia lyme infections, Leisgmaniasis (a parasite fighting herb, by itself it has been found effective at killing most of the leishmaniasis protozoan.
Coptis Root (Coptis chinensis)- has about the highest percentage of berberine of all plants.
Anti fungal, anti bacteria. (chlamydia, Cryptococcus, herpes simplex, leishmania, giardia, hepatitis B, Staph and Strep bacterial infections, aspergillus, E.Coli, dengue virus, Mycobacerium, helicobacter, cytomegalovirus
Cryptolepis (Cryptolepis sanguinolenta) - For systemic infection, Anit parasitic, Antiprotozoal, anti inflammatory, Anti Microbial, Anti bacterial, Renal Vasodilator. (e.coli, herpes simplex, candida spp, Asperigillus spp, Scabies, potent for resistant staph and streptococcus, etc, urinary tract infection. As a Renal Vasodilator - this herb will help decreases systemic vascular resistance and increases renal blood flow to the cortex and medullary regions in the kidney. It has been noted to improve renal function in patients with severe hypertension.
Tumeric root (curcuma longa) - shares similar liver protectant compounds that milk thistle and artichoke leaves contain. Turmeric decreases congestion and inflammation from stagnant mucous membranes. Turmeric is anti-inflammatory to the mucous membranes, which coat the throat, lungs, stomach and intestines. It is potent detoxifier. Turmeric’s active ingredient is an extracted compound called curcumin. Studies have shown that curcumin helps prevent several forms of cancer including breast, lung, stomach, liver, and colon because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It stops the development of cancer by interfering with the cellular signaling aspects of the chronic disease. Lab results have found curcumin were evaluated in vitro against 17 Penicillium spp. Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8176084/
Cinnamon (cinnamomum zeylanicum) studies showed the greatest effect on P. asperosporum, P. aurintogriseum and P. brevicompactum Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8176084/
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) studies showed the greatest effect on P. asperosporum, P. aurintogriseum and P. brevicompactum Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8176084/
Cloves (syzygium aromaticum) Studies showed Cloves extract was the most effective in reducing the growth of Penicillium spp. cloves extract produced the greatest effect on P. chermesinum and P. duclauxii.

Garlic (Allium Sativum) Several plant extracts possess anti fungal properties and can be used to suppress decomposing fungi (Ismaiel, 2008). garlic is among the most promising natural plant materials with antifungal properties (Gende et al., 2008); Rathod et al. (2010); (Yassin et al., 2013) and Znini et al., 2011). Antifungal activity of plant extracts is noted against Penicillium spp. and other fungi, as well as reduced production of mycotoxins (Rezzi et al., 2001; Ismaiel, 2008); Taskeen et al., 2011 and (Minz et al., 2012).
