Educational Overview
Fowl Pox
Fowl pox is a contagious viral disease in birds caused by an avipoxvirus. It spreads slowly through a flock and appears in two main forms: a dry form affecting the skin and a wet form affecting the mouth and upper airway.
Common Causes
- Infection with avipoxvirus spread through mosquitoes or biting insects
- Direct contact with scabs, feathers, or secretions from infected birds
- Contaminated equipment, housing, or feed surfaces
- Breaks in the skin allowing viral entry
- Higher risk during warm seasons when mosquitoes are active
Common Signs – Dry Form (Cutaneous)
- Wart‑like scabs on comb, wattles, eyelids, or legs
- Lesions that start as small white spots and progress to dark scabs
- Mild reduction in appetite or activity
- Usually slow‑spreading through the flock
Common Signs – Wet Form (Diphtheritic)
- Yellow or white plaques inside the mouth or throat
- Difficulty breathing, swallowing, or vocalising
- Drooling or open‑mouth breathing
- More severe illness and higher risk of complications

Supportive Wellness Focus (Educational Note)
Traditional plant- and mineral-based approaches are sometimes used to support immune resilience, vitality, and general wellbeing in poultry of all ages. These blends are not intended to treat disease, but may be used as part of a broader wellness and flock management strategy, alongside appropriate veterinary care.
Supportive formulas may be incorporated into feed or drinking water, with frequency adjusted according to seasonal, environmental, or stress-related factors.
Educational Overview – Crop Impaction in Chickens
Crop impaction occurs when fibrous or indigestible material accumulates in the crop, sometimes due to long grass, tough plant matter, or dietary imbalance. Signs may include a distended crop, reduced appetite, digestive sluggishness, or general discomfort.
Persistent or severe cases should be assessed by a veterinarian or poultry health professional, as impaction can lead to secondary complications.
