Feline Coronavirus & FIP
Feline coronavirus, often called FCoV, is a common virus found in many cat populations. Most cats exposed to it show no signs at all or may experience only mild digestive upset.
In a small number of cats, the virus can change inside the body. When this happens, it can lead to a more serious condition known as Feline Infectious Peritonitis, or FIP. FIP is associated with an abnormal immune response and can affect organs, the abdomen, or the nervous system.
Signs of FIP can vary widely. Some cats may show fever, reduced energy, or weight loss. Others may develop fluid buildup in the abdomen or chest, or changes in mobility or behavior.
Feline coronavirus itself is common and usually harmless, but recognizing changes in a cat’s health and seeking timely attention helps support long‑term well‑being.

Practitioner Notes:
-
Supportive Formulas: Stress Balance 229-3.
-
Nutritional Additions: Vitamin C (wholefood or liposomal), and mineral solutions such as magnesium/potassium blends (e.g., ReMyte).
-
Catteries / Colonies: Add Stress Balance to 1–2L filtered water, mix well, then add to meals, milk, or water 1–3x weekly (or daily if recent FIP exposure).
-
Clinical Context: FCoV exposure may present as mild URTI, runny eyes, sneezing, vomiting, or diarrhea. In stressed or mineral-deficient cats (catteries, ferals, poor diet), risk increases of progression to FIP.
-
Supplementary Consideration: Titre testing with Biogal VacciCheck® (validated antibody test kit) to prevent unnecessary re-vaccination.
-
Reference: Some practitioners and research sources note injections have limited efficacy against FIP, while supportive immune blends + micronutrients are traditionally valued for resilience.
