Educational Overview
Cushing’s Disease (Hyperadrenocorticism)
Cushing’s disease occurs when the body produces excess cortisol, a stress hormone made by the adrenal glands. Over time, high cortisol disrupts metabolism, immunity, skin health, muscles, and organs.
Common signs include increased thirst and urination, increased appetite, panting, lethargy, hair loss, thin skin, muscle weakness, and a pot-bellied appearance.
There are three main types:
- Pituitary-dependent (most common in dogs)
- Adrenal-dependent (adrenal tumor)
- Steroid-induced (from long-term corticosteroid use)
Diagnosis requires blood, urine, and hormone testing.
If using drugs then it is normally lifelong, most commonly with trilostane drug, plus regular monitoring.
Early diagnosis and consistent treatment greatly improve quality of life.

SET OF
Educational Purposes
For Dogs and Cats with Cushing's
Cushings is a chronic disease that can have varied causes.
The excessive adrenal hormones that circulate in the body cause a range of unwanted side effects.
Such as panting, pot belly, reduced energy, excessive thirst and urination, coat and skin issues and reduced immunity.
Canine Cushing’s Support
A carefully selected combination of natural, plant and mineral ingredients, traditionally associated with supporting balance, resilience, and overall wellness in dogs. This set is designed as part of a general health support approach, focusing on maintaining vitality, comfort, and wellbeing.
The Cushings Set provides targeted herbal support for the adrenals, pituitary gland and immune system for Dogs with Cushings Disease. The Cushing set also provides the herbal support needed for the body to be able to function as normally as it can.
Cushing's 56-2 primary aim is to reduce the unwanted side effects of excess stress hormones, whilst increasing quality of life.
Herbs do not increase or decrease adrenal function, instead they promote optimization and normalization of the adrenal glands. Adrenal targets the HPA (hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal) axis to strengthen the body's internal feedback mechanisms.
This action will often result in positive changes being seen within the first two weeks. If positive changes haven't been seen in this time, please contact us for increasing dosing recommendations. Promotes normal skin and coat, thirst and urination.
Supports normal energy levels, appetite, weight and muscle tone. If Cushings Disease is left untreated it can lead to diabetes or heart issues.
Ongoing Veterinary checks are essential in Cushings Disease.
Did you know?
In many cases, Cushing’s symptoms in dogs and cats are linked with changes in the pituitary gland. Only a small percentage (around 10%) are thought to involve the adrenal gland directly. This highlights the importance of understanding the underlying source of hormonal imbalance when considering supportive care options. Note: Gland Harmony 56-4 (50ml) available on request.
Understanding Balance in the Glands
The pituitary gland is often described as the “master conductor,” traditionally linked with balance, rhythm and overall harmony in the body
When the pituitary sends stronger signals, the adrenal glands may become more active, reflecting the body’s natural drive to stay alert and ready
The adrenal glands themselves are often associated in traditional teachings with resilience, energy and vitality, seen as helping the body adapt to daily change
In most pets, changes in balance are thought to come from the pituitary’s influence, while only a smaller portion are considered to start in the adrenal glands directly
Supporting harmony between these glands has long been viewed as a way to encourage steadiness, calm and healthy adaptation to life’s ups and downs
Gentle nourishment, balanced routines, and supportive natural approaches are often chosen to help bring ease to the whole system rather than focusing on one part alone
The traditional view is that by caring for the “conductor” and the “drums” together, the whole orchestra of wellbeing can play in tune
