Anal Sac Tumours in Pets
Anal sac tumours are growths that can develop in the anal sac glands, small scent glands located on either side of the anus in dogs and, less commonly, cats. These glands play a role in scent marking and normal elimination.
Pets with anal sac tumours may show local changes such as swelling near the anus, difficulty or discomfort when passing stools, licking or scooting, or changes in bowel habits. In some cases, broader signs such as weight changes or reduced vitality may also be observed.
Anal sac changes can affect comfort and quality of life and may sometimes be detected during routine veterinary examinations. Assessment typically involves veterinary examination and diagnostic testing to determine the nature of the growth.
This information is provided for educational purposes only and does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure disease. Veterinary advice should always be sought if changes around the anal area are noticed.

SET OF
Educational Purposes
Anal Sac Tumours in Pets
From a holistic perspective, anal sac tumours involve stress or change within the anal sac glands, which are small glands located beside the anus and associated with scent marking and normal elimination in pets.
Pets experiencing anal sac gland stress may show local discomfort or behavioural changes, such as scooting, licking the area, sensitivity when sitting, or altered bowel habits.
Some animals may also display more general changes in vitality, appetite, or demeanour, reflecting how closely elimination and comfort are linked to overall wellbeing.
Holistic education places emphasis on supporting the whole animal, including comfort, gentle routines, appropriate nutrition, hydration, and minimising physical and emotional stress.
Observation of changes over time is important, as early recognition can support timely veterinary assessment.
This information is provided for educational purposes only and does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure disease. Veterinary care remains essential for evaluating any anal sac changes, with holistic approaches considered supportive and complementary.
